Visit My Mosque – Open Mosque Days

At New Peckham Mosque - Sheikh Nazim al-Qubrisi, our Visit My Mosque event is a warm invitation to our neighbours, local residents, schools, community groups and people of all faiths and none to visit our mosque, meet the Muslim community, and learn more about Islam in an open, friendly and respectful environment.

The mosque is not only a place of prayer; it is also a place of reflection, learning, togetherness, support and service. Through this open day, we aim to create a welcoming space where visitors can ask questions, take part in meaningful conversations, understand the role of the mosque in Muslim life, and experience the values of hospitality, respect and community.

“O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another.”    Al-Ḥujurāt 49:13

A Historic Place of Faith and Community

New Peckham Mosque – Sheikh Nazim al-Qubrusi stands in a remarkable heritage setting with a deep history of faith, architecture and community life. Formerly known as St Mark’s Church, the building is a Grade II listed heritage building, officially recognised in England for its special architectural and historic interest.

Originally built in 1879–1880 and designed by the distinguished Victorian architect Richard Norman Shaw, the building carries the beauty of Gothic Revival architecture and reflects an important part of London’s religious and cultural history.

After serving as a church for many decades, the building was later purchased around 1980 under the leadership of Sheikh Nazim al-Qubrusi and established as New Peckham Mosque in the early 1980s. Today, under the leadership of ICMG UK Peckham Branch, it continues its sacred purpose as a place of worship, learning, guidance and community service.

This unique history gives the mosque a special meaning. It is a place where generations have gathered for worship, reflection and community life. Today, it continues to welcome people through prayer, education, Islamic guidance, social support and inter-community engagement.

Building Bridges Through Visit My Mosque

Visit My Mosque is an opportunity to build bridges between communities. The Qur’an reminds us that human diversity is a sign of divine wisdom and that people were created in different nations and communities so that they may know one another. In this spirit, our open mosque event allows people to come together, learn from one another, challenge misunderstandings, reduce prejudice and appreciate the religious and cultural diversity that enriches our society.

During the event, visitors may have the opportunity to join guided mosque tours, observe the prayer area, learn about Islamic worship and daily religious life, explore exhibitions or information stands, and speak with our imams, volunteers and community members. The programme is designed to be accessible, respectful and welcoming for everyone.

Inspired by the Islamic teaching that every life is valuable and deserving of dignity, compassion and care, our mosque seeks to be a place where people feel welcomed, supported and respected. In a world where many communities face division, uncertainty and misunderstanding, we hope that Visit My Mosque will be a small but meaningful step towards greater harmony, solidarity and neighbourly friendship.

We look forward to welcoming you at New Peckham Mosque - Sheikh Nazim al-Qubrisi by ICMG UK Peckham Branch, and sharing a day of conversation, learning, hospitality and community spirit.
