My Dear Brothers and Sisters!
Allah (SWT), the one whom created the worlds and everything within, should be feared. Allah says in the Quran in Surah Al-Imran “Oh you who have believed, fear Allah as he should be feared and do not die except as Muslims”. As we know, we should always be thankful to Allah for the blessing he provides us, but we should also be fearful of the wrath of Allah if we do not fullfil our duties as Muslims. We should not decieve ourselves by trusting in Allah’s mercy and knowingly commit mistakes. Because as Allah’s mercy is limitless, the punishments are also at the same level of severity.

My Brothers and Sisters!
Allah mentions in the Quran, “and these examples we present to the people, but none will understand them except those of knowledge”. And Abdullah ibn Mas’ood (ra) said: “Being fearful of Allah is enough knowledge.” Remaining ignorant and having no knowledge of Allah’s power will surely bring you down in this world and in the hereafter. Doing rightful actions and fearing Allah would only be possible by truely knowing Allah (swt) and his attributes. Our increasing knowledge and wisdom would increase our respect and awe towards Allah the All Mighty. Allah mentions in the Quran, “Only those fear Allah, from among His servants, who have knowledge”.

My Dear Brothers and Sisters!
So why does knowing Allah cause fear?
No doubt that Allah is most forgiving and merciful. If he was only known for being most merciful we would not fear him. Allah is not only the most merciful, but also invincible, cannot be crossed and can destroy when he wants. He is most powerful and most magnificent. He provides goodness to his servants even when they do not know or see. Those who do not know Allah(Swt), namely the ignorant people, would be bound to commit all types of Haram with ease.

Dear Jama’ah!
The term Taqwa, describes to us how we should fear Allah. Taqwa means having god-consciousness and being god-fearing. The degree of fear we have of Allah is guaged by our efforts in living our lives striving to gain the pleasure of Allah(Swt). To gain his pleasure, we must hold tight to his commands and stay away from what is forbidden.

My dear Brothers and Sisters!
As we are all aware, as Muslims, in this particular geography, we are at a status of being a minority. Thus, Allah has declared us to be Khalifs and has entrusted us with the world. For this reason, we should portray Islam as proper representatives of this Deen by withholding our fear of Allah(swt) and doing our utmost best to better the world and the people within.

May Allah ensure us to be of those whom fear him and allow us to be of those whom better the whole mankind with our actions and rightful doings. Ameen!
